How do you keep idle constant on 1987 VW cabriolet?

1. Locate the idle air control valve (IACV) on the car. The IACV is a round, black solenoid that is usually mounted on the throttle body.

2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the IACV.

3. Use a screwdriver or pliers to turn the adjustment screw on the IACV. Turning clockwise will increase the engine speed, and turning counterclockwise will decrease it.

4. While turning the adjustment screw, watch the tachometer. The engine speed should be set to desired rate (for example 900 RPM).

5. Once desired engine speed is reached, tighten the locknut on the adjustment screw to secure it in place.

6. Reconnect the electrical connector to the IACV.
