1. Prepare your motorcycle. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to avoid any electrical issues.
2. Locate the fuel line. The fuel line is connected to the fuel tank and runs to the carburetor. It is usually held in place with a spring clamp.
3. Disconnect the fuel line. Use a pair of pliers to loosen the spring clamp and then pull the fuel line off of the fuel tank nipple. Be careful not to spill any gasoline.
4. Locate the petcock. The petcock is a small valve located on the bottom of the fuel tank. It is used to turn the fuel supply on and off.
5. Turn off the petcock. Use a screwdriver to turn the petcock to the "off" position. This will prevent any fuel from flowing out of the tank when you remove it.
6. Locate the fuel tank bolts. There are two fuel tank bolts located on the underside of the fuel tank. They are usually 10mm bolts.
7. Remove the fuel tank bolts. Use a 10mm socket wrench to loosen the fuel tank bolts. Do not remove the bolts completely.
8. Lift the fuel tank. Carefully lift the fuel tank up and off of the motorcycle. Be careful not to spill any gasoline.
9. Disconnect the electrical connections. There are two electrical connections that need to be disconnected before you can completely remove the fuel tank. One connection is located on the left side of the tank and the other is located on the right side.
10. Remove the fuel tank. Once the electrical connections are disconnected, you can completely remove the fuel tank from the motorcycle.
Note: When you are reinstalling the fuel tank, make sure to reconnect the electrical connections and the fuel line properly. Also, be sure to turn the petcock back on when you are finished.
