Parts:

1. Battery

2. Starter relay

3. Starter solenoid

4. Engine

Operation:

When you turn the key to the "start" position, power from the battery flows to the starter relay. The starter relay then sends power to the starter solenoid. The starter solenoid engages the starter motor with the flywheel, which starts the engine.

Troubleshooting:

If your riding lawn mower won't start, it's possible that the starter solenoid is not working properly. You can troubleshoot the starter solenoid by following these steps:

1. Check the battery. Make sure the battery is fully charged and has enough power to start the engine.

2. Check the starter relay. Make sure the starter relay is working properly by jumping the terminals with a screwdriver. If the starter motor cranks, the starter relay is working properly.

3. Check the starter solenoid. You can check the starter solenoid by removing the wire from the "S" terminal and touching it to the positive terminal of the battery. If the starter motor cranks, the starter solenoid is working properly.

If the starter solenoid is not working properly, you will need to replace it. To replace the starter solenoid, follow these steps:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the starter cover.

3. Disconnect the wires from the starter solenoid.

4. Remove the starter solenoid mounting bolts.

5. Remove the starter solenoid.

6. Install a new starter solenoid.

7. Reverse the steps above to reassemble the starter cover and reconnect the battery cable.

Once you have replaced the starter solenoid, your riding lawn mower should start normally.
