1. Remove the spark plug.
2. Turn the engine over until the piston is at top dead center (TDC). This can be done by inserting a screwdriver into the spark plug hole and turning the engine until the piston pushes the screwdriver out.
3. Once the piston is at TDC, align the timing marks on the camshaft sprocket and the crankshaft sprocket. The timing marks are usually a small dot or line.
4. If the timing marks are not aligned, turn the crankshaft sprocket until they are.
5. Once the timing marks are aligned, tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt.
6. Replace the spark plug.
7. Start the engine and check the timing. The engine should run smoothly and without any knocking or pinging noises.
If the engine is not running smoothly, you may need to adjust the timing slightly. To do this, turn the crankshaft sprocket a small amount in either direction until the engine runs smoothly.
Once you are satisfied with the timing, tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt again.
