1. Ensure that the engine is warm.
2. Turn the engine off.
3. Locate the oil dipstick. On the Vstar 1100, it is usually a yellow loop handle on the right side of the engine, near the front of the cylinder head.
4. Pull the dipstick out.
5. Look at the oil level. There should be a "full" line or "max" line marked on the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "add" or "min" line and the "full" or "max" line.
6. If the oil level is low, add oil to the engine. Use an SAE 20W-50 motorcycle oil or the type recommended in the owner's manual. Add oil in small increments, checking the oil level each time until the oil reaches the correct level.
7. Once you've added oil, reinsert the dipstick.
8. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
9. Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes.
10. Recheck the oil level. If necessary, add more oil.
