Inspect the air filter: A dirty or clogged air filter can restrict airflow to the engine, leading to a lean fuel mixture and difficulty starting. Clean or replace the air filter according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
Check the throttle cable: Ensure the throttle cable is properly adjusted and moves smoothly when the throttle grip is turned. A misadjusted or sticky throttle cable can cause the engine to run lean and only start with the choke on.
Clean the carburetor: If none of the above steps solves the problem, cleaning the carburetor may be necessary. Over time, dirt and debris can accumulate in the carburetor, causing it to malfunction. Use a carburetor cleaner to thoroughly clean the carburetor, paying close attention to the jets and passages.
