Valve Lash Adjustment
The valve lash should be checked and adjusted every 2,000 miles (3,200 km). To adjust the valve lash, follow these steps:
1. Remove the valve cover.
2. Turn the crankshaft until the piston for the cylinder you are adjusting is at top dead center (TDC).
3. Use a feeler gauge to measure the clearance between the valve stem and the rocker arm.
4. If the clearance is not within specifications, use a screwdriver to turn the adjusting screw until the clearance is correct.
5. Tighten the locknut on the adjusting screw.
6. Repeat steps 2-5 for the other cylinder.
7. Replace the valve cover.
