Tools and Materials Needed:
- New oil filter (check your owner's manual for the correct size)
- Replacement oil (refer to your owner's manual for the recommended type and amount)
- Oil drain pan
- Wrench or socket set
- Funnel
- Rags
- Safety goggles
Procedure:
1. Preparation:
- Warm up the ATV's engine for a few minutes to help the oil drain more easily.
- Park the ATV on a level surface, and ensure the parking brake is engaged.
- Allow the engine to cool down a bit before proceeding.
2. Locate the oil drain plug:
- The oil drain plug is usually located at the bottom of the engine casing, near the oil filter.
3. Place the oil drain pan:
- Position the oil drain pan underneath the oil drain plug to catch the old oil as it drains.
4. Remove the oil drain plug:
- Use a wrench or socket to loosen and remove the oil drain plug.
- Be careful, as the oil may be hot. Allow it to drain completely.
5. Replace the oil drain plug:
- Once the oil has drained completely, replace the oil drain plug and tighten it securely.
6. Locate the oil filter:
- The oil filter is usually located near the top of the engine.
7. Remove the oil filter:
- Use an oil filter wrench or your fingers to loosen and remove the oil filter.
- Be careful not to spill any oil.
8. Apply a thin layer of new oil:
- Apply a thin layer of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter before installing it. This helps to create a seal and prevent leaks.
9. Install the new oil filter:
- Screw the new oil filter into place by hand until it is snug. Do not over-tighten.
10. Add new oil:
- Use the funnel to add new oil to the ATV's engine.
- Refer to your owner's manual for the recommended amount of oil.
- Do not overfill. Check the oil level using the dipstick.
11. Start the ATV:
- Start the ATV and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil.
- Check for any leaks from the oil drain plug or the oil filter.
Note:
If your ATV has an oil screen or oil cooler, refer to your owner's manual for instructions on cleaning or replacing those components.
Remember to always follow the specific instructions provided in your ATV's owner's manual, as there might be variations based on the model and year of your ATV.
