2. Use a key to manually release the trunk. If there is no emergency trunk release, you may be able to manually release the trunk using a key. Insert the key into the trunk lock and turn it to the left. This should unlock the trunk and allow you to open it.
3. Pry open the trunk. If you are unable to use the emergency trunk release or a key to manually release the trunk, you may be able to pry it open. Use a pry bar or crowbar to pry open the trunk lid. Be careful not to damage the paint or the trunk lid while prying it open.
If the situation requires an emergency, it may be necessary to use the following procedure.
1. Look for the emergency release cables at the rear of the trunk. The emergency release cable is usually located in the engine compartment near the battery. The emergency cable may have come free because of a previous accident or due to age.
2. Pull the emergency cable. Once you are under the trunk area and have located the cable, pull on the cable. The cable will release the lock and allow the trunk to open.
3. Pry open the trunk. Once the emergency release cable is disengaged, you may need to pry open the trunk. Use a pry bar or crowbar to pry open the trunk lid.
