- New oil filter (OEM or equivalent)
- Oil filter wrench
- Funnel
- New oil (check owner’s manual for type and amount)
- Rags
- Oil pan
Instructions:
1. Prepare your vehicle. Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine. Engage the parking brake and allow the engine to cool down.
2. Locate the oil filter. The oil filter is usually located near the top of the engine, near the oil pan. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with a black cap.
3. Prepare to replace oil. Place the oil pan under the oil filter to catch any oil that spills.
4. Remove the old oil filter. Loosen the oil filter using the oil filter wrench. Be careful not to spill any oil. Remove the old oil filter by hand.
5. Clean the oil filter area. Use a rag to clean the area around the oil filter. Remove any dirt or debris.
6. Install the new oil filter. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. Screw on the new oil filter by hand until it is snug. Do not overtighten the oil filter.
7. Reinstall the oil drain plug. Reinstall the oil drain plug and tighten it securely.
8. Add new oil to the engine. Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine. Add the amount of oil specified in your owner’s manual.
9. Start the engine and check for leaks. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for oil leaks around the oil filter and drain plug. If you see any leaks, tighten the oil filter or drain plug until the leak stops.
10. Check the oil level. Use the oil dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the “full” and “add” marks on the dipstick.
