1) Locate the fan belt. The fan belt is a long, thin piece of rubber that connects the engine's crankshaft to the fan. It is usually located near the front of the engine.
2) Find the belt tensioner. The belt tensioner is a small, metal device that is attached to the engine block and holds the fan belt in place.
3) Loosen the belt tensioner. There are two ways to do this:
a. If the tensioner has a bolt, loosen the bolt with a wrench.
b. If the tensioner has a spring, use a pry bar to pry the tensioner away from the belt.
4) Move the belt tensioner to loosen or tighten the belt. Tighten the belt by moving the tensioner away from the belt. This will stretch the belt and cause it to become tighter.
5) Secure the belt tensioner in place. Once the belt is at the desired tightness, secure the belt tensioner by tightening the bolt or pry bar.
_Note: Be sure not to overtighten the fan belt. Overtightening the belt can cause the fan to bind up and make the engine overheat. If the belt is too tight, loosen the tensioner a bit and try again_.
_Warning: The fan belt is under tension and can be dangerous if it snaps. Be sure to exercise caution when working near the fan belt._
