How to Change the Oil in a 2000 Land Rover Discovery II

_Materials needed:_

• New oil filter (check your owner’s manual for the correct size)

• New oil (Land Rover recommends an oil with the SAE 10W-40 viscosity rating)

• Oil drain pan

• Funnel

• Wrench

• Rags

_Changing the oil in a 2000 Land Rover Discovery II:_

1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.

2. Allow the engine to cool down for at least 10 minutes.

3. Crawl underneath the vehicle and locate the oil drain plug. It is a 17mm bolt located on the bottom of the oil pan.

4. Place the oil drain pan under the oil drain plug.

5. Use the wrench to loosen and remove the oil drain plug.

6. Allow all of the oil to drain from the oil pan.

7. Once all of the oil has drained, replace the oil drain plug.

8. Locate the oil filter. It is located on the top of the engine near the front of the vehicle.

9. Use the wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter.

10. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.

11. Screw the new oil filter onto the engine until it is snug.

12. Remove the oil fill cap. It is located on the top of the engine near the rear of the vehicle.

13. Use the funnel to pour the new oil into the engine.

14. Add the correct amount of oil (check your owner’s manual for the correct amount).

15. Replace the oil fill cap.

16. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.

17. Check the oil level and add more oil if necessary.

18. Turn off the engine and check for leaks.
