How do you change the heater motor on a Volkswagen Golf mark 3?

To change the heater motor on a Volkswagen Golf Mark 3, follow these steps:

1. Prep your car.

• Park your Golf in a safe location, and turn off the engine. Engage the parking brake.

• Open the hood and unhook the negative battery cable. This will prevent the engine from starting, and it will also make it easier to work near the heater motor.

2. Remove the center console.

• Remove the ashtray, cigarette lighter, and other obstructions from the center console.

• Locate the four screws that hold the center console in place. Two of the screws are located at the front of the console, and two of them are located at the rear.

• Use a Phillips-head screwdriver or ratchet with Phillips-head socket to loosen the screws. Be careful not to lose the screws.

• Once all the screws are removed, gently pry the center console up and off of the vehicle.

3. Remove the blower motor cover.

• Locate the blower motor cover, which is a rectangular plastic cover held in place by four screws located at the corners.

• Use a Phillips-head screwdriver or ratchet with a Phillips-head socket to loosen the screws. Be careful not to lose the screws.

• Once all the screws have been removed, gently pry the cover up and off of the motor.

4. Disconnect the electrical connector.

• Disconnect the electrical connector from the heater motor. You might need to use a flathead screwdriver or other tool to pry it off of the motor.

5. Remove the heater motor.

• Remove the three bolts that hold the motor in place.

• Use a ratchet with a 13mm socket to loosen the bolts. Be careful not to lose the bolts.

• Once all three bolts are removed, gently pull the heater motor out of the housing.

6. Install your new heater motor.

• Place the new heater motor in the housing.

• Push the motor in place until the bolt holes align with the bracket.

• Reattach the three bolts that were removed in the previous step. Tighten the bolts fully with the ratchet.

7. Reconnect the electrical connector.

• Snap the electrical connector back into place.

8. Reattach the blower motor cover.

• Place the blower motor cover back in place.

• Reinstall the four screws that were removed in step two, and tighten them securely.

9. Install the center console.

• Gently place the center console back into the vehicle.

• Reinsert the four screws that were removed in step two, and tighten them securely.

10. Reinstall the obstructions you removed from the center console in step one.

• This includes your ashtray and cigarette lighter.

11. Reconnect the battery.

• Reconnect the negative battery cable that was disconnected in step one.

12. Test the heater motor.

• Start the vehicle, turn on the heater, and make sure that it is working properly.
