- Screwdriver
- Wrench
- Jack and jack stands
- Pliers
- Power steering fluid catch pan
Instructions:
1. Prepare your vehicle. Park your vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine and allow it to cool down completely. Engage the parking brake and raise vehicle on the front driver’s side only with jack and jack stands.
2. Remove the serpentine belt. First loosen the tensioner tensioner pulley nut in a clockwise rotation using the wrench or breaker bar. Loosen 3 serpentine accessory bolts and allow the belt to be removed from vehicle pulley components. Set aside.
3. Remove the fan shroud lower bolt and fan shroud mounting bracket bolts. There is a bolt behind the air cleaner box that must be removed using an elongated screw driver that will give you the length to remove it. It is the first one to remove when removing the fan shroud. There are 3 lower shroud mounting bolts and 3 fan shroud mounting bracket bolts.
4. Remove the fan. Remove the fan clutch bolt at the center of the fan hub (not pictured) using a 36 mm socket and impact gun from the passenger side. Remove the fan pulley assembly by gently prying it off the power steering pump shaft with a flat head screw driver.
5. Remove the steering pump fluid reservoir hose from pump reservoir nipple using pliers by spreading out clamp and pull off. Pull the hose off from nipple of reservoir.
6. Remove power steering pump pressure line by gently prying the retaining clamp up with a flathead screw driver and sliding retaining clamp back away from fittings. Slide hose out of power steering pump fitting using a slight turning rotation.
7. Remove the upper and lower power steering pump bolts. There are two bolts, both 10mm and have a head that allows for wrench and socket use.
8. Remove power steering pump from bracket and remove old gasket material from pump surface and bracket if equipped with a bracket on vehicle.
9. Compare new pump to old pump side-by-side and transfer over power steering pump pulley if not equipped. Transfer over any additional components that may be needed.
10. Install new pump into bracket or directly into engine block of vehicle. Install all mounting hardware and components that previously were removed.
11. Install all lines and hoses that connect to the fluid reservoir and power steering pump. Make sure all lines and hoses are seated correctly and there are no leaks.
12. Lower the vehicle and fill the power steering fluid reservoir with the proper type and amount of fluid.
13. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to allow the power steering fluid to circulate through the system.
14. Check for any leaks and correct as necessary.
15. Test the power steering system to make sure it is working properly.
