Here are the steps on how to use a brake caliper wind-back tool:
1. Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine.
2. Chock the wheels to prevent the car from rolling.
3. Remove the lug nuts and wheel from the rear wheel that you are working on.
4. Locate the brake caliper. It is the metal housing that contains the brake pads and piston.
5. Find the rubber dust boot on the caliper. This is a small, flexible piece of rubber that covers the piston.
6. Insert the brake caliper wind-back tool into the dust boot.
7. Turn the tool clockwise to depress the piston back into the caliper.
8. Continue turning the tool until the piston is fully depressed and the brake pads are no longer touching the brake rotor.
9. Reinstall the wheel and lug nuts.
10. Lower the car off the jack stands.
11. Test the brakes to make sure that they are working properly.
