Instructions
1. Prepare the car. Park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down for at least 30 minutes. Engage the parking brake and chock the wheels. Open the hood of the car.
2. Locate the oil drain plug. The oil drain plug is located on the bottom of the engine oil pan. It is typically a 19 mm bolt.
3. Place the oil drain pan under the oil drain plug. Make sure the pan is large enough to catch all of the oil that will drain out.
4. Loosen the oil drain plug. Use the socket wrench to loosen the oil drain plug. Be careful not to drop the bolt into the oil pan.
5. Allow the oil to drain. Allow all of the oil to drain out of the oil pan. This may take several minutes.
6. Replace the oil drain plug. Once all of the oil has drained out, replace the oil drain plug. Tighten the plug until it is snug.
7. Locate the oil filter. The oil filter is located on the top of the engine. It is typically a cylindrical-shaped object with a black cap.
8. Remove the oil filter. Use the socket wrench to loosen the oil filter. Be careful not to spill any oil.
9. Apply a thin coat of oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. This will help to ensure a good seal.
10. Screw on the new oil filter. Hand-tighten the oil filter until it is snug. Do not overtighten the oil filter.
11. Add new oil to the engine. Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine. Add the amount of oil specified in the owner's manual.
12. Check the oil level. Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.
13. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.
14. Check for leaks. Look under the car for any leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the oil drain plug or oil filter until the leak stops.
