* Timing belt cover (if equipped)
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the timing belt cover (if equipped).
3. Locate the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the timing cover.
4. Turn the crankshaft until the timing marks are aligned.
5. Insert a jumper wire into the tachometer connector on the distributor cap.
6. Connect the timing light to the jumper wire and the battery.
7. Start the engine and let it idle.
8. Aim the timing light at the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley.
9. Adjust the distributor until the timing marks are aligned.
10. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt.
11. Turn off the engine and reconnect the negative battery cable.
12. Replace the timing belt cover (if equipped).
The 318 motor is now correctly timed.
