Tools and Materials Needed:
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- 5/16-inch wrench
- 1/2-inch wrench
- Fuel line pliers
- Safety glasses
- Gloves
- Rags
- New fuel pump
- Fuel filter (optional)
Instructions:
1. Disconnect the battery. This will prevent any electrical sparks from occurring while you are working on the fuel system.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. This can be done by turning the ignition key to the "On" position for a few seconds, then turning it back to the "Off" position. Repeat this process several times until the fuel pump stops running.
3. Locate the fuel pump. The fuel pump is located under the rear seat of the Lumina Euro.
4. Remove the rear seat. To do this, first remove the two bolts that hold the seat in place. Then, lift the seat up and out of the car.
5. Remove the access cover. The access cover is located on the top of the fuel tank. It is held in place by four screws. Remove the screws and lift the cover off.
6. Disconnect the fuel lines. There are two fuel lines that connect to the fuel pump. Use fuel line pliers to disconnect the lines.
7. Remove the electrical connector. The electrical connector is located on the top of the fuel pump. Disconnect the connector by pressing down on the release tab and pulling it off.
8. Remove the fuel pump. Use a 5/16-inch wrench to loosen the bolts that hold the fuel pump in place. Then, lift the fuel pump out of the tank.
9. Inspect the fuel pump. Check the fuel pump for any damage. If the fuel pump is damaged, replace it with a new one.
10. Install the new fuel pump. Place the new fuel pump into the tank. Then, use a 5/16-inch wrench to tighten the bolts that hold the fuel pump in place.
11. Reconnect the electrical connector. Press the electrical connector onto the fuel pump until it clicks into place.
12. Reconnect the fuel lines. Use fuel line pliers to reconnect the fuel lines to the fuel pump.
13. Replace the access cover. Place the access cover back onto the fuel tank and secure it with the four screws.
14. Replace the rear seat. Lift the rear seat into place and secure it with the two bolts.
15. Connect the battery.
Tips:
- When disconnecting the fuel lines, be careful not to spill any fuel.
- If you are replacing the fuel filter, now is a good time to do so.
