In the Mercedes-Benz SL500, the oil dipstick is color coded yellow. It is located on the driver's side of the engine, near the front. It is labeled with the word "oil".
Checking The Oil Level
1. Ensure that the engine is warm.
2. Remove the oil dipstick.
3. Clean the dipstick with a clean cloth.
4. Insert the dipstick back into the oil dipstick tube.
5. Remove the dipstick again and check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "min" and "max" marks on the dipstick.
Adding Oil
If the oil level is low, you will need to add oil to the engine. Use only the type of oil specified in your owner's manual.
1. Remove the oil dipstick.
2. Use a funnel to add oil to the engine.
3. Add oil in small amounts, checking the oil level after each addition.
4. Do not overfill the engine with oil.
Replacing the Oil Dipstick
If the oil dipstick is damaged or missing, you will need to replace it. The oil dipstick can be purchased from your Mercedes-Benz dealer or a local auto parts store.
1. Remove the old dipstick.
2. Insert the new dipstick into the oil dipstick tube.
3. Push the dipstick all the way in until it is seated.
