How do you install a head gasket in 2005 Chevy Cobalt?

Tools and Materials:

- New head gasket

- Gasket sealant

- Clean rags

- Ratchet

- Socket set

- Pry bar

- Torque wrench

- Feeler gauge

- Flat-blade screwdriver

- Coolant

- Oil

Procedure:

1. Park your Cobalt in a safe location and turn off the engine.

2. Remove the negative battery cable.

3. Drain the coolant from the radiator.

4. Remove the intake manifold.

5. Remove the valve cover.

6. Loosen the head bolts in reverse order of the tightening sequence specified in your vehicle's service manual.

7. Use a pry bar to carefully pry the head gasket off the engine block.

8. Clean the mating surfaces of the head and block with a clean rag.

9. Apply a thin coat of gasket sealant to both sides of the new head gasket.

10. Carefully align the new head gasket with the head and block and lower it into place.

11. Replace the head bolts and tighten them in the correct sequence to the specified torque.

12. Replace the valve cover and intake manifold.

13. Fill the radiator with coolant.

14. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to check for leaks.

15. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
