- Spark plug wrench
- Spark plug gap tool
- New spark plugs
- Phillips head screwdriver
Step 2: Open the hood
Step 3: Locate cylinder heads
- 3.8L engine – two cylinder heads – front of the engine
- 4.6L engine – two cylinder heads – sides of the engine
Step 4: Remove the engine covers
- Pull up to remove
- Set covers aside
Step 5: Remove old ignition coil assemblies
- Use Phillips-head screwdriver to remove two screws securing coil assembly to cylinder head
- Remove coil assembly carefully
Step 6: Remove spark plugs
- Use spark plug wrench to turn counter-clockwise to loosen and remove spark plug
Step 7: Gap new spark plugs
- If needed, set gap to specification
Step 8: Install the new spark plugs
- With the tip facing down, screw the new spark plug in by hand until it stops
- Use the spark plug wrench to tighten the spark plug. Be careful not to over-tighten.
- Repeat steps for the other spark plugs
Step 9: Reinstall ignition coils
Step 10: Reinstall the engine covers
