- Pliers
- Flat-head screwdriver
1. Disconnect Battery:
Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety while working on the vehicle's electrical components.
2. Remove Fan Shroud:
- Locate the fan shroud, which covers the cooling fan and radiator.
- Unfasten the screws or clips that hold the fan shroud in place.
- Carefully remove the fan shroud, taking care not to damage the radiator fins or other components.
3. Locate Fan Clutch:
- Behind the fan shroud, you will see the fan clutch attached to the water pump shaft.
4. Remove Fan Clutch Bolts:
- Using a wrench, loosen and remove the bolts or nuts that hold the fan clutch to the water pump.
- If necessary, use a breaker bar to provide extra leverage.
5. Engage Wrench on Clutch:
- Hold the water pump pulley in place by inserting a wrench or large flat-head screwdriver between the pulley and an adjacent surface, preventing the pulley from turning.
6. Loosen Fan Clutch Nut:
- While holding the pulley, use another wrench or socket to loosen the central nut that secures the fan clutch to the water pump shaft.
- Be careful not to drop the nut or any components.
7. Remove Fan Clutch and Fan:
- Lift the fan clutch and fan assembly upwards and off the water pump shaft.
- Set them aside in a safe location.
With the fan and fan clutch removed, you will have access to the water pump for further inspection, maintenance, or replacement, as needed.
