How do you remove the power steering pump from an impala?

To Remove the Power Steering Pump from an Impala:

NOTE: Turn off the engine and let it cool before begining.

Materials Needed:

• Screwdriver

• Wrench

• Power Steering Fluid

• Funnel

• Rag

• Jack and Jack Stands

Procedure:

1. Park your car on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and chock the wheels.

2. If your vehicle is front wheel drive, raise and support it with jack stands under the frame. Skip this step if rear-wheel drive.

3. Turn the wheels completely to one side.

4. Locate the power steering pump on the front of the engine. It is usually located on the passenger side near the top.

5. Remove the serpentine belt from the power steering pump. Use a wrench to loosen the tensioner pulley and slip the belt off the pump.

6. Disconnect the power steering fluid hoses from the pump. There will be two hoses connected to the pump, a pressure hose and a return hose. Use a screwdriver to pry the hose clamps loose and then pull the hoses off the pump.

7. Remove the mounting bolts that hold the pump to the engine. There are usually three bolts that hold the pump in place. Use a wrench to loosen the bolts and then remove them.

8. Remove the power steering pump from the engine. Once the bolts are removed, you should be able to lift the pump off the engine.

9. Inspect the power steering pump for leaks or damage. If the pump is damaged, it will need to be replaced.

10. Install the new power steering pump. Reverse the steps above to install the new pump.

11. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir with new fluid. Use a funnel to add fluid until the reservoir is full.

12. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new fluid throughout the system.

13. Turn the wheels from lock to lock several times. This will help to bleed any air from the system.

14. Check the power steering fluid level after driving for a few minutes. Add more fluid if necessary.
