1. Disconnect the battery. This is a safety precaution to prevent any accidental sparks.
2. Remove the steering column trim. This may vary depending on your vehicle, but there are usually a few screws or bolts that need to be removed.
3. Locate the ignition cylinder. It is usually located on the right side of the steering column.
4. Remove the ignition lock cylinder retaining bolts. There are usually two bolts that hold the cylinder in place.
5. Remove the ignition lock cylinder. Once the bolts are removed, you can pull the cylinder straight out of the steering column.
6. Install the new ignition lock cylinder. Insert the new cylinder into the steering column and align it with the mounting holes.
7. Install the ignition lock cylinder retaining bolts. Hand-tighten the bolts, then use a torque wrench to tighten them to the specified torque.
8. Reinstall the steering column trim. Replace the screws or bolts that you removed in step 2.
9. Reconnect the battery.
10. Test the ignition cylinder. Turn the key in the ignition to make sure that the cylinder is working properly.
Tips:
* If you have a difficult time removing the ignition lock cylinder, you may need to use a penetrating oil to loosen the bolts.
* Be careful not to drop the ignition lock cylinder. If you do, it may be difficult to reinsert it.
* If you are not comfortable working on your own car, you can always take it to a mechanic to have the ignition cylinder replaced.
