1. Locate the timing marks. The timing marks on the camshaft are located on the front of the engine, just below the valve cover. There are two marks: one for the intake camshaft and one for the exhaust camshaft.
2. Position the crankshaft. The crankshaft must be positioned at top dead center (TDC) in order to align the timing marks. To do this, turn the crankshaft until the piston in the number one cylinder is at the top of its stroke. You can check this by inserting a dipstick into the oil fill hole and watching for it to reach its highest point.
3. Align the timing marks. Once the crankshaft is at TDC, you need to align the timing marks on the camshaft with the marks on the timing belt. To do this, turn the camshaft until the marks are lined up. You may need to use a wrench to turn the camshaft.
4. Install the timing belt. Once the timing marks are aligned, you can install the timing belt. Make sure that the belt is tight and that it does not slip.
5. Start the engine. Once the timing belt is installed, you can start the engine. The engine should run smoothly and without any unusual noises.
