Where is the fuel pump on a 2001 grand marquis?

2001 Mercury Grand Marquis In-Tank Fuel Pump Replacement

Location: The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank, which is located under the rear seat of the vehicle.

Tools and Materials Needed:

- Flat-head screwdriver

- Phillips-head screwdriver

- Socket set

- Wrench

- Rags

- New fuel pump (with gasket)

Procedure:

1. Turn off the engine and allow the vehicle to cool down.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. This will prevent any electrical accidents while you are working on the fuel pump.

3. Remove the rear seat. There are four bolts that hold the rear seat in place. Remove these bolts and lift the seat out of the vehicle.

4. Locate the fuel pump access panel. The fuel pump access panel is located in the center of the rear floorboard. It is covered by a plastic cover that is held in place with four screws. Remove the screws and lift the cover off.

5. Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump. There are two fuel lines that connect to the fuel pump. Use a wrench to loosen the fuel line nuts and then use your hands to disconnect the lines from the fuel pump.

6. Remove the fuel pump mounting bolts. There are four bolts that hold the fuel pump in place. Use a socket wrench to remove these bolts.

7. Lift the fuel pump out of the fuel tank. Be careful not to spill any fuel.

8. Inspect the fuel pump and gasket. If the fuel pump is damaged or the gasket is worn, replace them with new parts.

9. Install the new fuel pump. Place the new fuel pump in the fuel tank and secure it with the four mounting bolts.

10. Reconnect the fuel lines to the fuel pump. Tighten the fuel line nuts until they are snug.

11. Replace the fuel pump access panel cover. Secure the cover with the four screws.

12. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

13. Start the engine and test the fuel pump. The fuel pump should run for a few seconds when the engine is first started. If the fuel pump does not run, check the electrical connections and make sure that the fuel pump is properly seated in the fuel tank.

Tips:

- Be sure to work in a well-ventilated area when replacing the fuel pump.

- Avoid smoking or using open flames near the fuel tank.

- If you spill any fuel, be sure to clean it up immediately.
