• The Coolant Temperature Sensor for the 1996 Ford Explorer can be found in one of two locations, depending on the engine type.
• For the 4.0L V6 engine, the sensor is screwed into a port in the driver’s side cylinder head just below the thermostat housing at the rear of the engine.
• For the 5.0L V8, it’s located in the driver’s side cylinder head just beneath the upper intake manifold.
