How do you remove a wheel cylinder 73 dodge dart?

Removing the Wheel Cylinder on a 1973 Dodge Dart

Tools Needed

* 17mm wrench

* 19mm wrench

* Wheel chock

* Socket wrench

* Brake fluid

* Rags

* Safety glasses

Procedure

1. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel you are going to remove, then put the lug nuts back on lightly just enough to hold the tire in place.

2. Place a chock behind the tire that is diagonally opposite the wheel you will be removing to keep the car from rolling.

3. Jack the vehicle up until the tire you are working on is approximately six inches off the ground.

4. Remove the lug nuts and take the wheel off.

5. Remove the brake drum and brake shoes.

6. Remove the brake fluid line fitting using a flare nut wrench. Be sure to keep the flare nut fitting with the line so that you can re-use it.

7. Remove the two retaining bolts that hold the wheel cylinder in place using a socket wrench or box end wrench.

8. Remove the old wheel cylinder from the backing plate.

9. Clean the mating surface of the backing plate where the old wheel cylinder mounted with a rag.

10. Carefully apply brake fluid to the new wheel cylinder's piston cups and seals to lubricate them.

11. Place the new wheel cylinder in position on the backing plate and insert retaining bolts.

12. Tighten the retaining bolts.

13. Reattach the brake fluid line using the flare nut fitting you took off in step six.

14. Reattach the brake shoes and brake drum.

15. Put the tire on lug nuts back on then remove the lug nut on the other wheel.

16. Lower the vehicle.

17. Tighten the lug nuts securely.

*Test the brakes before driving the vehicle and check for leaks.*
