1. Ensure the engine is cool. Hot coolant under pressure may spray out if the radiator is opened when hot.
2. Locate the radiator cap. The radiator cap is typically located on the top of the radiator, usually near the front of the engine compartment.
3. Twist the radiator cap counterclockwise. The radiator cap is usually secured with a twist-lock mechanism. Twist the cap counterclockwise until it comes loose.
4. Press down on the radiator cap and continue turning. There is a secondary locking mechanism on the radiator cap that requires you to press down on the cap while continuing to turn it. Press down firmly and continue turning the cap counterclockwise until it comes off.
5. Lift the radiator cap off the radiator. Once the cap is completely unthreaded, lift it off the radiator. Be careful not to spill any coolant.
Note: If you are unable to remove the radiator cap by following these steps, you may need to use a radiator cap removal tool. These tools are available at most auto parts stores.
