Instructions:
1. Prepare the Vehicle: Park your Honda Accord on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine and allow it to cool down completely. Open the hood and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent electrical shocks.
2. Locate the Fuel Pump Access Panel: The fuel pump access panel is located under the rear seat. Fold down the rear seat to access the panel.
3. Relieve Fuel Pressure: To safely relieve fuel pressure, start the engine and let it run until it stalls. Then, turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position and leave it there for a few minutes to allow the pressure to dissipate.
4. Remove the Fuel Tank: Place a large gas can under the fuel tank. Use a flathead screwdriver to loosen the fuel tank's drain plug and allow the fuel to drain into the container. Once the tank is empty, remove the fuel lines and electrical connectors connected to the tank. Unbolt the tank straps and carefully remove the fuel tank.
5. Remove the Fuel Pump Assembly: Disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connections to the fuel pump. Unbolt the fuel pump assembly from the fuel tank and remove it carefully.
6. Install the New Fuel Pump: Place the new fuel pump into the fuel tank. Connect the fuel lines and electrical connections. Bolt the fuel pump assembly back onto the fuel tank. Be sure to tighten the bolts securely.
7. Reinstall the Fuel Tank: Carefully place the fuel tank back into position. Connect the fuel lines and electrical connectors. Install the fuel tank straps and secure them with the bolts. Tighten the bolts securely.
8. Test the Fuel System: Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and listen for the fuel pump to prime. If you hear the pump running, start the engine and allow it to run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks around the fuel lines and connections. If everything seems to be working properly, turn off the engine.
9. Cleanup: Clean any spilled fuel using a shop towel. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Fold up the rear seat. Your fuel pump replacement is now complete.
Important Note: Working with fuel can be hazardous, so be sure to take all necessary safety precautions, including wearing safety goggles and gloves. If you are uncomfortable working with fuel, it is best to seek assistance from a professional mechanic.
