- New oil filter (check owner's manual for specific size and type)
- Oil drain pan
- Funnel
- Wrench
- Rags
- Safety glasses
Steps to Change the Oil Filter:
1. Park your vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
2. Locate the oil filter. It is usually located near the bottom of the engine, near the oil drain plug.
3. Place the oil drain pan under the oil filter. Make sure the pan is large enough to catch all of the oil that will drain out.
4. Loosen the oil filter with a wrench. Turn counterclockwise until it is loose enough to be removed by hand.
5. Be careful not to spill any oil. As you remove the oil filter, allow the oil to drain into the pan.
6. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. This will help to create a seal and prevent leaks.
7. Screw on the new oil filter until it is snug. Do not over-tighten the oil filter.
8. Add new oil to the engine through the oil fill cap. Check the owner's manual for the correct amount of oil.
9. Check for leaks. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Look under the vehicle for any leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the oil filter or drain plug until the leak stops.
10. Dispose of the old oil and filter properly. Take them to a recycling center or auto parts store.
Tips:
- If you have difficulty removing the oil filter, you can use an oil filter wrench.
- Be careful not to over-tighten the oil filter. This can damage the filter or the engine.
- Check the oil level regularly and add oil as needed.
