- 3/8-inch drive breaker bar.
- 1/2-inch drive breaker bar.
- 15mm combination wrench.
- Flat-bladed screwdriver.
- Replacement compressor belt.
Instructions:
1.) Relieve the pressure on the A/C system. To ensure safety when replacing a compressor belt, the pressure on the A/C system must be discharged using an A/C manifold. If you are not comfortable doing this, it is recommended to take your vehicle to a mechanic.
Locate the compressor belt. The compressor belt is the short belt on the engine that is driven by the crankshaft. It is usually located on the front of the engine, near the top.
2.) Loosen the compressor mounting bolts. There are two bolts that hold the compressor in place. Use the breaker bar to loosen them slightly, but do not remove them completely.
3.) Pry the compressor away from the engine. You can use the flat-bladed screwdriver to do this. Be careful not to damage the compressor or the surrounding components.
4.) Remove the old belt. Once the compressor is far enough away from the engine, you can remove the old belt. Slip it off the crankshaft pulley and the compressor pulley. Discard the old belt.
5.) Install the new belt. Place the new belt around the crankshaft pulley and the compressor pulley. Make sure that the belt is properly seated in the grooves on the pulleys.
6.) Tighten the compressor mounting bolts. Use the ratchet to tighten the bolts you loosened earlier. Tighten them until they are snug.
7.) Turn on the engine. Start the engine and check that the new compressor belt is working properly. The belt should be tight and should not slip.
