1. Locate the idle air control (IAC) valve.
- The IAC valve is usually located on the throttle body, which is connected to the intake manifold.
- it's a small, cylindrical device with a black plastic housing.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the IAC valve.
- Press down on the locking tab and pull the connector straight up.
3. Remove the two screws that hold the IAC valve in place.
- Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to loosen the screws.
4. Pull the IAC valve straight out of the throttle body.
- Be careful not to drop the O-ring that seals the valve in place.
5. Inspect the IAC valve for damage.
- Look for any cracks or damage to the plastic housing, and check the pintle for any signs of wear or damage.
6. Clean the IAC valve.
- Use a cotton swab and some carburetor cleaner to clean the inside of the valve and the pintle.
7. Reinstall the IAC valve in the throttle body.
- Make sure to install the new O-ring.
8. Tighten the two screws to secure the IAC valve in place.
9. Reconnect the electrical connector to the IAC valve.
10. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
- The idle speed should now be normal.
Note: If the idle speed is still high after cleaning the IAC valve, you may need to replace the valve or the throttle body gasket.
