1. Locate the throttle cable. It is usually a black cable that runs from the throttle body to the gas pedal.
2. Check the play. There should be some free play in the cable, about 1-2 millimeters. If there is no play, then the cable is too tight. If there is too much play, then the cable is too loose.
3. Adjust the cable. To tighten the cable, turn the adjuster nut clockwise. To loosen the cable, turn the adjuster nut counterclockwise.
4. Test the cable. Start the engine and check to make sure that the idle speed is correct. If the idle speed is too high, then the cable is too tight. If the idle speed is too low, then the cable is too loose.
Repeat steps 1-4 until the throttle cable is properly adjusted.
