How to Flush the Brake Lines on a 1989 Caprice Classic

1. Park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine.

2. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels, but do not remove them.

3. Raise the front of the car with a jack and place jack stands under the frame.

4. Locate the brake fluid reservoir. It is a clear plastic container with a black cap located on the driver's side of the engine compartment.

5. Remove the cap from the brake fluid reservoir.

6. Attach a brake fluid bleeder wrench to the bleeder screw on the front driver's side wheel cylinder.

7. Open the bleeder screw and allow the old brake fluid to drain into a drain pan.

8. Continue to open the bleeder screw and drain the old brake fluid until the fluid coming out is clear.

9. Close the bleeder screw.

10. Repeat steps 7-9 for the front passenger's side wheel cylinder, and then for the rear driver's side wheel cylinder, then the rear passenger's side wheel cylinder.

11. Add new DOT 3 brake fluid to the brake fluid reservoir until the fluid level is between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks.

12. Replace the cap on the brake fluid reservoir.

13. Lower the car off the jack stands and remove the jack.

14. Drive the car for a few miles to test the brakes and ensure that they are working properly.

Tips

- It is important to use a brake fluid bleeder wrench to open the bleeder screws. Using a regular wrench could damage the bleeder screws.

- Be careful not to spill brake fluid on the paint of your car. Brake fluid can damage paint.

- If you have a helper, it will make the bleeding process easier. One person can pump the brake pedal while the other person opens and closes the bleeder screws.

- If you allow air to get into the brake lines, the car will not brake properly and could cause an accident.
