2. A flathead screwdriver
3. A Phillips head screwdriver
Step 1: Open the Rear Liftgate
Use your key or the keyless entry button to open the rear liftgate of your Honda Pilot.
Step 2: Locate the High Mount Brake Light Housing
Inside the liftgate, look for the high mount brake light housing located just above the rear window.
Step 3: Pry Open the Housing Cover
Use the flathead screwdriver to pry open the cover of the high mount brake light housing. Be careful not to damage the housing or the paint around it.
Step 4: Remove the Old Bulb
Locate the old 1157 bulb inside the housing. Use your Phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the bulb in place. Once the screws are removed, you can pull out the old bulb.
Step 5: Install the New Bulb
Take the new 1157 bulb and align it with the socket in the housing. Make sure that the bulb is seated properly. Replace the two screws you removed earlier to secure the new bulb in place.
Step 6: Replace the Housing Cover
Once the new bulb is installed, replace the housing cover. Make sure that the cover is snapped in place securely.
Step 7: Test the Brake Light
Turn on your vehicle and press the brake pedal. Check if the high mount brake light is functioning properly. If it is, then you have successfully replaced the high mount brake light bulb on your 2004 Honda Pilot.
