How do you add freon to the air conditioner of your 1996 4 wheel drive Isuzu Rodeo?
You cannot add Freon to a vehicle with an air conditioner. R-12 Freon, the refrigerant previously used, is no longer available due to its ozone-depleting properties. Instead, R-134a is now commonly used. To fill the air conditioner with R-134a, you will need to find and add a specific Freon hose (R134A) into your car’s air conditioning system. Once the proper Freon hose is attached to the air conditioning system, you will need to turn the air conditioning on high and turn the car’s engine on. As it’s idling, you can fill the system with the R134a that is found in a canister that may be purchased from an auto parts store. If the proper Freon hose and air conditioning equipment is not available, you can take your car to a certified auto mechanic who will be able to fill the system with the proper amount based on the manufacturer’s recommendations.
