1. Purchase the replacement lighter. You can find the lighter assembly online, at a local automotive store, or from the Mitsubishi dealership.
2. Remove the old cigarette lighter. Pry out the ash tray. This may be done by using a flat head screwdriver to gently pry the ashtray out of place. There will be a wire underneath the back of the ashtray. Remove the wire that powers the lighter. There may be a plastic bracket holding the wire in place. This bracket simply pries off. Next take a pliers and twist the bulb that illuminates the lighter clockwise until it is completely unscrewed and removed from the car. Next, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the slot next to the lighter and pry it loose from its holding bracket. Then, unplug the lighter from the power source.
3. Install the new cigarette lighter. Insert the new lighter into the socket and secure it in place. Reconnect the power wire to the back of the lighter and reinstall the ashtray.
4. Test the new cigarette lighter. Plug in a cigarette lighter or other device to test the new lighter.
