Tools needed
* 5/16-inch socket wrench
* 10 mm socket wrench
* 12 mm socket wrench
* Phillips head screwdriver
* Flat head screwdriver
* Pliers
* Coolant
* Clean rag
Instructions
1. Drain the coolant from the radiator by removing the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator.
2. Remove the air filter housing by removing the two 10 mm bolts on the top of the housing and then lifting the housing off of the throttle body.
3. Remove the throttle cable by unhooking it from the throttle body and then removing the two 12 mm bolts that hold the cable bracket to the intake manifold.
4. Remove the coolant hose from the heater core by using pliers to clamp the hose clamp and then sliding the hose off of the heater core.
5. Remove the two 5/16-inch bolts that hold the heater core in place and then lift the heater core out of the car.
6. Clean the area where the heater core was seated using a clean rag.
7. Insert the new heater core into the housing, making sure that it is seated properly then secure the heater core with the two 5/16-inch bolts.
8. Reconnect the coolant hose to the heater core and secure it with the hose clamp.
9. Reconnect the throttle cable to the throttle body and then secure the cable bracket to the intake manifold with the two 12 mm bolts.
10. Reinstall the air filter housing by setting it on the throttle body and then securing it with the two 10 mm bolts.
11. Refill the radiator with coolant.
Tips & Tricks
- It may be necessary to remove the battery to access the heater core.
- If the coolant is still warm, allow the car to cool down sufficiently before beginning work.
- Take care not to spill any coolant on the ground or on the car’s paintwork.
- Be sure to properly dispose of the old coolant.
- Refill the radiator with coolant to the proper level.
- Test the heater core by turning on the heater and checking for hot air coming through the vents.
