How do you replace the water pump on a 1993 Ford Tempo?

Removal

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Drain the cooling system.

3. Remove the fan shroud.

4. Remove the serpentine drive bel

5. Remove the alternator.

6. Remove the power steering pump.

7. Remove the thermostat housing from the water pump using a 13mm socket or a 1/2 inch wrench.

8. Remove the three bolts that hold the water pump to the engine block.

9. Remove the water pump.

Installation

1. Clean the water pump mounting surface and remove all old gasket material.

2. Apply a thin bead of sealant to the new gasket.

3. Install the new water pump.

4. Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern to 20 ft-lb (28 Nm).

5. Remove the bypass hose and replace it with a new one. Tighten the hose clamps.

6. Install the power steering pump.

7. Install the alternator.

8. Install the serpentine drive belt.

9. Install the fan shroud.

10. Fill the cooling system with a mixture of 1 gallon (4 liters) of water and 1 quart (0.9 liters) of ethylene glycol (1:4).

11. Connect the negative battery cable.

12. Start the engine let the car warm up, and check for leaks.
