1. Park your vehicle in a safe location and turn off the engine.
2. Locate the diagnostic port under the dashboard, usually near the driver's side footwell. It's a small, rectangular port with a plastic cover.
3. Open the cover of the diagnostic port and remove it.
4. Insert the code scanner into the diagnostic port. The code scanner is a small device that can read and display the engine codes.
5. Turn on the code scanner and follow the instructions on the screen. The code scanner will display the engine codes and their descriptions.
6. Write down the engine codes and descriptions for further diagnosis and repair.
7. Turn off the code scanner and remove it from the diagnostic port.
8. Replace the cover of the diagnostic port.
Note: If you do not have a code scanner, you can take your vehicle to a mechanic or an auto parts store to have the engine codes checked for you.
