1. Park Safely: Park your ML350 on level ground, activate the parking brake, and if possible, prop the hood up for better accessibility.
2. Locate the Taillight Assembly: Open the tailgate/boot of your ML350. On each side (left and right), you'll see a plastic covering for the taillight assembly.
3. Remove the Tailgate Panels: Use a Torx screwdriver (usually T25 or T30) to remove the screws securing the plastic covers. This will reveal the brake lights and their sockets.
4. Identify Faulty Bulb(s): Inspect the brake lights. One or both bulbs might be burned out.
5. Disconnect the Bulb Holder: Press the spring tab or twist the bulb holder to disconnect it from the taillight assembly. Some models may have a twist lock mechanism.
6. Remove the Bulb: Gently pull the old bulb straight out of the holder.
7. Insert a New Bulb: Put a new compatible bulb into the holder, making sure the alignment is correct. Slightly twist or push the bulb in to secure it.
8. Reconnect the Bulb Holder: Reinsert the bulb holder back into the taillight assembly. Ensure the spring tab or twist lock is engaged properly.
9. Test the Brake Lights: Check that the brake lights are working by turning on the headlights and stepping on the brake pedal.
10. Replace the Tailgate Panels: Put the plastic covers back on and tighten the screws removed earlier.
11. Repeat for Other Side: If necessary, repeat steps 3 through 10 for the brake light on the other side of the vehicle.
12. Dispose Responsibly: Dispose of the old brake light bulbs safely and responsibly.
Remember, if you are uncomfortable performing these steps, it's advisable to consult the owner's manual for your specific model or have the brake lights replaced by a qualified mechanic.
