How do you reset the check engine light on Subaru Impreza?

To clear the check engine light on a newer model Subaru Impreza (usually after 2006), you WILL need a ScanTool. Here are the steps:

1. Insert the key into the ignition without turning it.

2. Locate the "TRIP" button on the dashboard.

3. Press and hold the "TRIP" button while turning the key to the "ON" position (not "START").

4. Continue to hold the "TRIP" button until "DIAG" appears on the odometer.

5. Release the "TRIP" button.

6. The odometer will display a series of codes, some beginning with "P" that indicate fault codes.

7. To reset the check engine light, press the "TRIP" button again until "CLR" appears on the odometer.

8. Press and hold the "TRIP" button until the check engine light turns off.

9. Turn off the ignition. The check engine light should be reset.

If you DON'T have a ScanTool, here is what you can try:**

1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Wait for at least 15 minutes.

3. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

4. Start the engine and check if the check engine light is off.

If the check engine light is still on after following these steps, it is recommended to have the vehicle diagnosed by a qualified mechanic.
