Warning: Transmission fluid is hot and can cause severe burns. Allow plenty of time for it to cool down before changing the fluid or checking the fluid level.
1. Locate the transmission fluid dipstick. It is usually a long, thin, red or orange dipstick with a yellow handle. It is located on the driver's side of the engine, near the back.
2. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean. Use a clean rag or paper towel to wipe the dipstick clean.
3. Reinsert the dipstick and pull it out again. This time, check the fluid level on the dipstick. The fluid should be between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
4. If the fluid level is low, add transmission fluid. Use a funnel to add transmission fluid to the transmission. Add fluid until the level is between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
5. Reinsert the dipstick and check the fluid level again. Make sure the fluid level is between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
6. Replace the dipstick.
