1. Gather the necessary tools and parts. You will need a new crankshaft position sensor, a 10-mm socket, a ratchet, and an extension. You can find these tools at most auto parts stores.
2. Park the vehicle in a safe and well-lit area. Put the parking brake on and turn off the engine.
3. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will prevent the engine from starting while you're replacing the crankshaft position sensor.
4. Locate the crankshaft position sensor. It is on the driver's side of the engine near the oil filter. It is a small black plastic sensor with a single electrical connector.
5. Unplug the electrical connector. Press down on the release tab and pull the connector straight off the sensor.
6. Remove the two 10-mm bolts that hold the crankshaft position sensor in place.
7. Remove the old crankshaft position sensor from the engine. Be careful not to drop it.
8. Install the new crankshaft position sensor. Hand-tighten the two 10-mm bolts until they are snug.
9. Plug in the electrical connector. Make sure that the connector is fully seated and the release tab is engaged.
10. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
11. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for leaks around the crankshaft position sensor. If there are no leaks, you are finished.
