Instructions
1. Park your truck on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool for at least 30 minutes.
2. Crawl underneath the truck and locate the oil pan. It is the large, metal pan located beneath the engine.
3. Place the oil drain pan beneath the oil pan drain plug. The drain plug is located on the bottom of the oil pan, towards the rear of the engine.
4. Use the 15mm wrench to loosen the oil pan drain plug. Allow the oil to drain completely into the drain pan.
5. Replace the oil pan drain plug and tighten it securely with the 15mm wrench.
6. Locate the oil filter. The oil filter is a cylindrical-shaped object located near the top of the engine, towards the front of the truck.
7. Use the oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter. Turn the oil filter counterclockwise until it is completely removed.
8. Apply a thin film of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. This will help to create a seal and prevent leaks.
9. Screw the new oil filter onto the oil filter housing. Tighten the oil filter by hand until it is snug, then use the oil filter wrench to tighten it an additional 1/2 turn.
10. Raise the truck off of the jack stands.
11. Use the 15mm wrench to remove the oil pan bolts. There are 12 bolts that secure the oil pan to the engine.
12. Gently pry the oil pan off of the engine. Be careful not to damage the oil pan gasket.
13. Clean the oil pan gasket mating surfaces on the engine and oil pan. Remove any old gasket material or debris.
14. Apply a thin bead of RTV silicone gasket maker to the oil pan gasket mating surface on the engine.
15. Place the new oil pan gasket on the oil pan gasket mating surface on the engine. Make sure that the gasket is centered and properly aligned.
16. Gently lower the oil pan onto the engine. Be careful not to damage the oil pan gasket.
17. Install the oil pan bolts and tighten them securely with the 15mm wrench.
18. Lower the truck to the ground.
19. Add new oil to the engine. The 2.5L engine requires 5 quarts of 5W-30 motor oil.
20. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for leaks underneath the truck. If there are any leaks, tighten the oil pan bolts or oil filter until the leak stops.
21. Turn off the engine and check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick.
