Instructions:
1. Park the vehicle in a safe location, turn off the engine, and allow it to cool down. Engage the parking brake and chock the wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Locate the fuel pump in the fuel tank. On the 1995 Dodge Dakota, the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank, under the rear seat.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. This is done by removing the fuel pump relay from the relay box under the hood. This action will cause the fuel pump to stop running and relieve pressure in the fuel lines.
3. Disconnect the battery. This step is important to prevent any electrical sparks or fires.
4. Remove the rear seat. The rear seat is typically held in place by a few bolts or screws. Once the bolts are removed, you can lift the seat out of the vehicle.
5. Remove the access panel. The access panel is located under the rear seat. Remove the screws that hold it in place and set it aside.
6. Disconnect the fuel lines. There are two fuel lines that connect to the fuel pump: the supply line and the return line. Use a fuel line disconnect tool to disconnect the fuel lines from the pump.
7. Unbolt the fuel pump. The fuel pump is held in place by a few bolts. Unbolt the fuel pump and carefully lift it out of the fuel tank.
8. Inspect the fuel pump gasket. The fuel pump gasket is located between the fuel pump and the fuel tank. If it is damaged or worn, it will need to be replaced.
9. Install the new fuel pump gasket. If necessary, install a new fuel pump gasket. Make sure the gasket is properly seated before proceeding.
10. Install the new fuel pump. Carefully insert the new fuel pump into the fuel tank and secure it with the bolts.
11. Reconnect the fuel lines. Use the fuel line disconnect tool to reconnect the fuel lines to the pump.
12. Reconnect the battery. Reconnect and secure the positive battery terminal.
13. Start the vehicle and check for leaks. Start the vehicle and check for any leaks. If there are any leaks, turn off the engine and fix the leaks before proceeding.
14. Reinstall the access panel. Reinstall the access panel under the rear seat.
15. Reinstall rear seat. Replace the removed seat bolts and reinstall the seat.
Note: Replacing a fuel pump can be a complex task, so if you are not comfortable performing this repair yourself, it is best to take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic.
