When was the steam engine improved?

In 1769, Scottish engineer James Watt patented a separate condenser, which vastly improved the efficiency of the steam engine by keeping the cylinder permanently hot. By the end of the eighteenth century, steam engines had been adopted by many factories, mines and mills, driving the Industrial Revolution.
