1. Gather your tools.
You will need:
- A spark plug wrench
- A flat-blade screwdriver
- A feeler gauge
- A 10mm wrench
2. Remove the spark plug.
Use the spark plug wrench to loosen and remove the spark plug from the cylinder head.
3. Remove the valve cover.
Use the 10mm wrench to loosen and remove the nuts that hold the valve cover in place. Then, carefully lift off the valve cover.
4. Inspect the valves.
Take a look at the valves and make sure that they are clean and free of debris. If there is any dirt or build-up, use a soft cloth to clean them off.
5. Adjust the valve clearances.
Use the feeler gauge to measure the clearance between the valve stems and the cam lobes. The clearance should be between 0.004 and 0.006 inches. If the clearance is too large or too small, use the flat-blade screwdriver to adjust the valve lifters until the clearance is correct.
6. Reassemble the engine.
Once you have adjusted the valve clearances, reassemble the engine in the reverse order that you disassembled it. Be sure to tighten the nuts and bolts securely.
7. Start the engine and check for any leaks.
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks around the valve cover. If there are any leaks, tighten the nuts and bolts until the leaks stop.
That's it! You have now successfully adjusted the valves on your 50cc GY6 engine.
