1. Disconnect the battery:
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal cable using a suitable wrench.
- Wait for a few minutes to allow the power to drain from the system.
2. Reconnect the battery:
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal cable.
- Tighten the cable to secure it properly.
3. Turn the key in the ignition:
- Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position without starting the engine.
- Leave the key in this position for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
4. Start the engine:
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
- This allows the engine control unit (ECU) to reset and may turn off the Service Engine Soon light.
5. Drive the car:
- Take the car for a short drive to allow the ECU to gather data and monitor the engine's performance.
- During the drive, accelerate and decelerate gently to help the ECU adjust.
6. Check the light:
- After the short drive, turn off the engine and check if the Service Engine Soon light is still illuminated.
- If the light is off, the reset process was successful.
Note: In some cases, if the issue that caused the light to come on has not been fully resolved, the Service Engine Soon light may come back on after a drive cycle. If this happens, you may need to have the car diagnosed by a qualified mechanic or authorized service center to identify and fix the underlying problem.
